There are two morning concerts at Kenyon Hall in West Seattle. Experience the fun of the old-time Wurlitzer organ!
This coming Tuesday morning, June 29, at 9:45 and 11:20 A.M., we’re presenting two forty-five minute shows featuring the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ and several of your favorite Kenyon Hall artists.
The occasion is the national convention of the American Theatre Organ Society. On Tuesday, conventioneers will be bused to several Seattle locations to hear the instruments our city has to offer, and we’re going to show them the best of Kenyon Hall, including free Root Beer Floats!
The two morning shows will have only 50 in each audience from the convention, so we’re offering the rest of the seats to our loyal fans.
Performing will be Andy Crow on the Mighty Wurlitzer and the recently acquired 1938 Concert Grand Hammond, New York society pianist Peter Mintun, in town for his July 2 and 3 performances at the hall, Connie Corrick, Hugh Hastings, Louis Magor, and gospel luminary Pat Wright.
Tickets are only $5, and free for children on laps. Space is limited; reservations are recommended. To reserve, e-mail kenyonhall@earthlink.net and let us know which show you’d like to attend, and how many seats you’d like. You’ll receive a return e-mail confirming your reservation. We accept cash and checks at the door.

2.2 million cribs recalled

USAToday: "2 million baby cribs recalled amid concerns of suffocation danger"

More than 2 million cribs from seven companies are being recalled over concerns that babies can suffocate, become trapped or fall from the cribs.

With Thursday's recall, 9 million drop-side cribs have been recalled in the past five years.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 2 million cribs, warning that some drop-side cribs could trap or suffocate babies.

Drop-sides, which have a side rail that moves up and down so parents can lift children from them more easily, have been blamed in the deaths of at least 32 infants and toddlers since 2000. The cribs are suspected in another 14 infant fatalities during that time.

No deaths have been associated with the latest cribs being recalled, but there have been reports of at least 16 entrapments of infants. In one case, a child was found unconscious and later hospitalized, the Associated Press reports.

westside baby diaper party!

School's Out and The Diapers are Coming!
Wednesday June 23 at 11:00am
WestSide Baby will receive 200,000 Diapers!

Free lattes, cake and activities for the kids!

As part of the WestSide Baby Community, we thought you'd want to be the first to know that we will receive 200,000 diapers thanks to Kimberly-Clark's Huggies Brand tomorrow, Wednesday June 23 at 11 am.

Join us!! We are located at 10032 15th Ave. SW Seattle 98146. We are just south of the Dollar Store and behind White Center Chiropractic. Please park on the street.

Ever wonder what 200,000 diapers looks like?
We have! Come join us to see for yourself! A big semi-truck is scheduled to arrive at our little facility in White Center at 11 am loaded with diapers! We've lined up containers in our parking lot, a fork lift and pallet jacks and can't wait to celebrate this amazing gift.

While we gave 200,000 diapers out in 2009, we've never seen that many all at one time. Along with 9 other diaper banks across the country, we've been talking with Huggies about diaper need since last fall. The donation arrives not only because of the obvious need but, at WestSide Baby, we believe these things happen also because of the incredible community support we have. Huggies wants to be a part!

Wear Red and get a Free Latte or Italian Soda
Espresso Elegance donates a latte cart!
Come on down tomorrow between 10-12 and receive a free latte! Kids can have an Italian Soda treat.

We expect there to be some media coverage of this event. If it's easy for you, please throw on something RED and join us. We want Huggies to know how much the entire WestSide Baby Community appreciates diapers.

Because the truck will be arriving at 11am, you may consider coming a bit before or after that time.

Kids get Cake
While supplies last!
We'll cut a cake to celebrate once the truck is unloaded. We're hoping to have enough for all the kids (and maybe a few lucky adults too!)

We are working on getting the fire department to stop by for a bit subject to availability. Feel free to call us in the morning if that is of interest to you.

We'll have sidewalk chalk and coloring pages on hand to occupy little ones for their short stay here. We do ask parents to help us keep little ones inside the courtyard and out of the way of machines in the parking lot. We'll keep the gate closed!

study finds lead in kids juice boxes

From Safemama: One of our wonderful readers emailed me about this over the weekend (Thanks Vanessa!) and of course I was all over it, checking it out. I’m not the first to report on it but I felt it warranted SafeMama attention. A study done by the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) revealed that a large number of juice box and baby food brands, including organic brands, exceeded levels of lead that would be dangerous for the 6 and under age set. This infuriates me beyond belief.

They have published the list of products tested for lead (PDF) and listed the brands that exceeded the CA Prop 65 limit of 0.5 micrograms of lead per serving and those who did not exceed it. See article link for FULL LIST.

plan ahead for the american heroes air show

(SAT 6/19) *Great Father's Day Weekend Activity!

DOWNLOAD FLYER HERE

From HeliGirl:

I'm writing to give you a heads up about an event I volunteer to put on every year at Boeing Field. It's called the American Heroes Air Show and Code 3 Fair. It's a free helicopter and public service event we hold every June at the Museum of Flight in the museum's parking lot.

The American Heroes Air Show was started as a way to increase public awareness and knowledge about the helicopters in our skies and their vital roll in our community. Aircraft scheduled this year will include EMS, police, Customs and Border Protection, DEA, Army, Navy, Air Force, collectors and flight schools. Attendees can learn about the public service aircraft serving our communities, learn about how to become a helicopter pilot, and get information on careers in these fields.

Each year we bring in more than a dozen helicopters (17 are scheduled this year) that will be on static display for the public to view, climb in, and talk to their crews. Additionally, we offer helicopter rides for $40 each, so helicopters will be flying by all day for added effect. :)

In the past few years we've added the Code 3 Fair, which is a public service education and recruitment fair. This year we have about a dozen participants, most of which bring "big toys" for kids of all ages - fire engines, bomb truck, police cars, etc.

This year the event is from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, June 19. Parking and admission is free (museum admission is extra).

Enthusiasts will want to know when they can be there to watch the aircraft arrive. Our first arrival for the morning is scheduled for 7 am (a Chinook), with the action really picking up with arrivals every 15 minutes at 8 a.m. The public is welcome to come and watch the arrivals from the safety of the museum's lawn. We have a sponsor who's offered to provide FREE coffee, hot chocolate and pastries to anyone coming early to watch the action.

Thanks again,
Jen
Coordinator

In order to try and recoup the losses, Stacy Jacobsen Photography and ARMOMMY are putting together a special event this weekend called "The Break In Sale." We are going to turn something so negative, into a positive experience.

Saturday June 12th from 2pm to 7pm
